Prayers for peace. Lately, I’ve read people not wanting thoughts and prayers. But sometimes that’s all we have to give. It’s so heartbreaking. I’d rather not hear about the shooter. I want to hear about the victims and their families and how the parade-goers helped each other and showed kindness and humanity. And this community came together with the police to take him down before he could tear apart more lives. 💔❤️

Thinking of you and our family and friends in Highland Park. Your article was also my reality. My brother, niece and nephew were on a float at the HP parade and many friends and other family members were along the route. After leaving Chicago on July 5th, my husband and I never expected to be driving home to central Wisconsin with the image of the suspect's car and license plate up on my phone in case we saw it. Little did we know we know that he was taking our same route toward Madison. Thank goodness he turned around and was caught before he could take more lives. I know that we have never met, but I am sending you warm wishes and a big hug. Your 3rd cousin, Jenny

There is no repairing the lost lives taken from them on July 4 in Highland Park. No bringing back the grandfather, husband, wife or 2 year old child; now without ANY parents. There’s no way to explain what happened to all of the children involved. No way to ease any of those childrens fears; probably for their lifetime! No lives at that parade will ever return to normal.

Sure- ban the guns, ban the knives, ban the hate, ban the prejudice. All great ideas. BUT…..

I’m sure that each & every person who has ever committed a mass killing; HAS ALWAYS PREFACED HIS EVIL INTENTIONS ; somehow , someway. Either they told a friend, started to act strangly, or most likely- WARNED PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET! So- it’s all on us people. The answer to prevention of these atrocities is IF U C SOMETHING- SAY SOMETHING.!!! But don’t just say something to your friends. While your on ur phone texting your friends 24/7-… CALL the police to prevent another slaughter!

Maybe getting involved BEFORE the massacre is the answer!!! That’s the best I can come up with😭

Indeed. My daughter's best friend from high school lives in Tucson. Her parents, who lived across the street from me on Bloom, just retired, sold their home, and moved a month ago. Otherwise, they would have been there, too.

I used to live in Highland Park and always attended the parade when I did.
